Midweight delivery managers
Salary: £39k – £47k (depending on experience)
Location: Wales. Remote but may be expected to attend some in person meetings.
Term: This is a permanent role for the remainder of this Senedd term (until May 2026) with an option to extend in future.
This role is available as a secondment for Welsh public sector employees. Please follow your own organisation’s policy on informing and getting permission from line managers.
The ability to speak and write Welsh is desirable. We will judge applications submitted in Welsh or English equally.
About the Centre for Digital Public Services
The Centre for Digital Public Services (CDPS) helps to design and deliver better public services for Wales.
We are an arm’s length body of the Welsh Government set up to help deliver the Digital Strategy for Wales.
Our focus is on:
- creating shared digital standards (including for services and technology), building communities and sharing knowledge
- building skills and capability and a pipeline of digital talent
- creating ‘digital squads’: multidisciplinary teams who work in partnership with organisations to design and deliver better services around the needs of the people who use them
We’re a diverse team of digital experts made up of permanent staff, fixed term appointments, secondments from the Welsh public sector and suppliers.
We’re looking for people who are passionate about creating accessible services that are simple enough for everyone to use.
We are looking for delivery managers to help produce products and services for stakeholders across the Welsh public sector. Your role is to ensure that your product stays true to user needs, is delivered efficiently and is managed according to Agile principles.
You’ll be adept at delivering complex products and services and breaking down barriers for your team. You’ll be able both to plan at a high level and to get into the detail to make things happen.
What you’ll do
- deliver services and products that are best in class for the Welsh public sector, giving the same level of digital experience users expect from interaction with the most respected web services
- deliver products and services using the appropriate Agile method, iterating frequently
- lead the collaborative, dynamic planning process – prioritising work and the capacity and capability of the team
- initiate Agile ceremonies around the team’s needs, carrying out regular retrospectives and continuously improving team and product capability
- ensure all products are built to an appropriate level of quality and align with the Digital Service Standards for Wales
- remove blockers for the delivery team and encourage collaboration across teams and organisations
- ensure your delivery team has tools and processes to deliver a product or service successfully
- monitor spending against budget for the Agile phase and flagging any risk of shortfall
Who you are
We want to hear from people with skills and experience in:
- planning and managing delivery of products and services in an Agile environment, ensuring that projects stay within budget
- delivering change, both in the form of new services and the technology to support those services
- identifying and mitigating risks
- matrix-managing multidisciplinary teams
- handling a variety of tasks at the same time
- communication: negotiating, persuading, influencing, networking and collaborating
- a range of delivery tools, for example Trello and Jira, and remote working tools such as Slack and Teams
You should also:
- have good time management and be able to work autonomously
- be able to get to the heart of an issue quickly and clearly, demonstrating expert knowledge in an applied setting
- be naturally curious – you keep on top of your own learning and development and are up to date with the latest techniques and trends in your field
- be an advocate for user-centered practices, embedded within Agile delivery
- be able to explain complex technical concepts in plain language to people with limited knowledge of Agile and user-centred design
- be committed to the development of improved digital services across Wales
- have an understanding of the political and social landscape of Wales
- be fluent in spoken and written Welsh (desirable)
