Leading digital services – an introduction to digital service delivery for public service leaders in Wales
Digital is now a central part of all our lives and that has never been more evident than during the pandemic. This is a focused and practical 90 minute online session for Corporate Leadership Teams. This session introduces some of the key concepts and approaches that are increasingly being used to deliver public services – services that are better able to adapt to change, more efficient to run and deliver better outcomes for the people of Wales. It’s based on real experience and full of practical examples.
The session covers:
Digital leadership – how to inspire and align your leadership team for successful digital transformation. This includes championing service design, enabling better collaboration and adapting your services to the digital age and user need.
Improved outcomes – find out more about how to design your services around the needs of the people who use your them and challenge your own thinking and assumptions.
Better services – explore how you can take a whole service perspective and identify opportunities to make improvements and reduce service failure, ultimately delivering better services for your users and for your organisation.
The session will give you:
- an understanding of the key concepts, tools and approaches that organisations are using to succeed in the digital age.
- a greater understanding of the basics of user centred service design, and the value it can bring in addressing challenges.
- space to step back and think differently about your services and reflect on how these approaches might be applied in your organisation.
- an opportunity to consider your next steps.
We’ve already run this with several councils, and have had great feedback, including this from Karen Jones Chief Executive of Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council:

The 90-minute awareness session has been designed to fit into an existing leadership team meeting, and is delivered online using Microsoft Teams or similar.
