A cookie is a small file of letters and numbers which often includes an anonymised, unique identifier. This means that it can be used to identify you without revealing your personal information. When you visit a website, it asks permission to store a cookie in the cookies section of your hard drive. Cookies are widely used on the internet to make websites work, to make them work more efficiently, or to provide information about your usage of the site to the site owner or other third parties. For example, if you add items to a shopping basket, a cookie allows the website to remember what items you’re buying, or if you log in to a website, a cookie may recognise you later so that you do not have to put in your password again.
A third-party cookie is one that is associated with a different domain or website than the one that you visit. For example, on this site, we use third-party cookies built by Google to enable website analytics, but as our site is not on the Google domain, this makes their cookies “third-party” cookies. The Google Analytics cookie will recognise and count the number of people who visit our site, as well as providing other information such as how long visitors stay, where they move to on our site, and what pages receive the most visits. We cannot directly control how Google cookies behave.
Use of Mailchimp on www.digitalpublicservices.gov.wales
This privacy notice specifically refers to our use of data collected through the offer of inclusion in communications lists, currently the CDPS newsletter and participation in one or more Community of Practice groups.
For the inclusion in either or all lists the only information captured is an email address and by definition of being on the list, a GDPR consent marker. The GDPR consent marker is set on a widget, which then triggers an opt-in email to the user. Only by clicking an approval link in this email will the users address be added to the email list. The record will be retained until the user clicks the unsubscribe link found on all emails – or otherwise contacts CDPS via another avenue.
Purpose of processing
The email address provided will be used to periodically email and maintain contact with those who have opted in, only for the purpose for which they provided their email address.
Each email address will be held for as long as the participant wishes to be part of the mailing list, after which time they can chose to unsubscribe from the list by clicking an unsubscribe link which is provided on any previous emails.
Lawful basis for processing
By submitting their email address, the participant is then opting in to receive follow up emails for that topic only, individuals are providing consent to our processing of their personal data for the purpose specified.
Who we share data with
The data is stored by our email service supplier, Mailchimp. This information is stored only on EU Servers and is not shared, sold, or used by anyone outside Mailchimp or CDPS.
More details on how information is stored can be found at https://www.intuit.com/privacy/statement/
