Recruitment support for Vale of Glamorgan Council

We worked with the Vale of Glamorgan Council and our recruitment partner to recruit a Head of Digital for the local authority.  

Yolk Recruitment is based in Cardiff, and have worked with us since April 2023 to provide recruitment to public sector organisations in Wales. 

It was the first time that the Vale of Glamorgan worked with a recruitment agency. They wanted to find the right talent for the position.  

After an initial conversation with Yolk Recruitment to discuss the current market and how best they could support.  

After an initial conversation with the local authority to discuss the current market and how could Yolk best support them, they engaged stakeholders at the council to understand better the role requirements.  

Yolk has a public sector and not-for-profit team and specialist Digital, Data, and Technology (DDaT) recruiters within their team. They’re experts at navigating the recruitment challenges faced by the public sector. 

They worked together with the council to produce a recruitment roadmap, outlining milestones and processes.  

The local authority ran their own usual campaign alongside Yolk's to save time and speed things up. 

Following Yolk’s advice, the council removed their usual application form which often prevents busy candidates from applying.  

Besides advertising the role through different channels, Yolk was proactive in engaging potential candidates, reaching a far greater candidate pool.  

After screening hundreds of candidates, the council received a shortlist of the most relevant 5 applicants with redacted CVs and cover letters to prevent potential unconscious bias.  

Three candidates were then invited to interview, and then two were shortlisted to a final stage. 

The entire recruitment process took 3 months in total, from the role going live to the right person starting in their new position. 

The council expressed they were impressed with the support they received, the seamless process and the great and diverse talent they met.
