The Artificial Intelligence Leadership Group for Wales brings together public service organisations from across Wales to share updates, spot risks and opportunities, and support each other to use AI in a responsible, people-centred way.
Since launching a year ago, the original steering group has grown into a lively leadership forum where members share new use cases, review guidance and policy developments, and work together to fill key gaps for Wales — from commissioning practical how-to guides to tackling our unique governance challenges.
We’re delighted to welcome Matt Lewis, Chief Operating Officer at SRS Wales, as the group’s new chair. Matt brings deep technical expertise, a public service mindset, and a collaborative approach that fits perfectly with the group’s ethos.
With Matt at the helm, we’re excited to keep up the momentum and stay focused on what matters most: helping teams approach AI in a way that’s safe, transparent, and genuinely helpful to the people of Wales.
Matt added: “I am thrilled and extremely proud to have been asked to become the Chair for the AI Leadership Group for Wales. As the Chief Operating Officer of a shared service my collaborative intent is to foster a culture of shared purpose, mutual respect and collective achievement. I believe that true collaboration is built on trust, transparency, being brave and a commitment to co-creating value across teams, departments, and partner organisations. My approach is grounded in the belief that the best outcomes emerge when diverse perspectives are brought together to solve complex challenges. I strive to create environments where open dialogue is encouraged, responsibilities are shared, and innovation is driven by inclusive thinking. Ultimately, my intent is to Chair the group in a way that empowers others, builds resilient systems and delivers meaningful outcomes for the communities we serve."
"This is a fantastic opportunity to drive innovation and harness the potential of AI to benefit our communities and indeed our nation. My vision is to foster a collaborative environment where we can leverage the collective expertise of our members to navigate the challenges and seize the opportunities presented by AI. I am committed to ensuring that our group contributes to the development of ethical and sustainable AI practices that will place Wales at the forefront of technological advancement, and I look forward to working closely with everyone to make purposeful strides together."
"My ambition for the group is for it to become the place we all look to for advice and guidance, the central resource we all pull from and share with and the driving force for impactful projects that address real-world challenges together. By leveraging the diverse skill sets of our members, we can develop solutions that not only advance the field of AI but also create tangible benefits for Wales."
