Overview 

This course, originally created by Dr David Travis, has been adapted for the Welsh public sector and is delivered by the Centre for Digital Public Services (CDPS).

In this blended-learning course, you’ll learn the basics of user research through online group sessions led by our trainers, along with tasks to complete to support your learning.   

Who the course is for 

This course is aimed at people who: 

  • work in the Welsh public sector delivering devolved services 
  • engage with real users in their role 
  • want to gain a deeper understanding of user research methods 
  • want to improve their products or services through effective research 

Cost 

This course is funded by the Welsh Government and is free for those who work in the Welsh public sector delivering devolved services.

In return, we ask that you help us improve these courses by taking part in research. 

How it works 

You’ll be involved in 9 live online training sessions, each lasting 3 hours, where you can: 

  • learn from your trainers 
  • engage in practical activities 
  • complete tasks to support your learning and prepare you for each session

What you’ll learn

  • run a usability test 
  • generate insights

At the end of the course, you’ll understand: 

  • the importance of user needs 
  • user journey mapping 
  • effective planning of user research using an Agile framework 
  • user research techniques 
  • how to analyse user research  

What you’ll need 

You’ll need a device with connection to the internet to join the online sessions and have access to the learning platform.
