Background

The Digital Service Standard for Wales defines what good public services look like. Using the principles in the standard will help organisations design and run efficient, cost-effective services designed around the needs of the user.

The standard talks about ‘creating digital teams’, however, we know that there is a shortage of these skills across the public sector in Wales and that there are significant budgetary pressures on organisations to run their day-to-day services that rules out hiring a whole digital, data and technology (DDaT) team.

We also know that there are lots of great, passionate and talented people working in the public sector who have relevant transferable skills.

Lauren Power, Product Manager, introduces what capabilities are needed

Project aims

We want to do 2 things:

  1. Make it easier for people to understand and identify the capabilities required to design services that meet the Digital Service Standard for Wales.
  2. Design something that helps organisations assess and identify any capabilities shortages in their teams to help guide their workforce development strategy.

We aim to achieve this through research and engagement with people who are leading teams that design and deliver public services in Wales.

If this is you, we’d love to talk, contact user.research@digitalpublicservices.gov.wales

At CDPS, we work in the open, which means we talk about the work and what we’re finding openly. View our latest show and tell:
