We convene several groups for digital leaders including the Chief Digital Officers network for Wales, the AI Leadership Group and the Government mandated Digital and Data Standard Board for Wales.

However, if we are going to make real strides to organisations adopting digital approaches and agile ways of working, we need to break out of this echo chamber and develop the skills and confidence of other leaders across Wales.

When leaders fully buy into digital transformation, they create the necessary cultural shift that empowers teams to embrace innovation and change. This commitment results in tangible resource allocation, removal of bureaucratic barriers, and visible participation in agile processes.

Leaders who champion digital approaches set the tone throughout the organisation, giving teams the confidence to experiment, learn from failures, and iterate. Without this top-level endorsement, digital initiatives often become isolated projects rather than transformative organisational changes.

Effective leaders recognise that digital transformation is not just about technology implementation but about fundamentally reshaping how work gets done—encouraging cross-functional collaboration, data-driven decision-making, and user-centred thinking that delivers better outcomes for all stakeholders.
